Designing Surgical Simulation Modules for Osso VR

In this role (officially titled Associate Medical Illustrator), I worked collaboratively within cross-functional teams to develop high-fidelity surgical training modules in the Unity game engine software. I managed projects independently, researching surgical procedures, defining learning objectives, and communicating with clients. I proficiently collaborated with artists and QA teams, ensuring streamlined procedures and bug fixes. My responsibilities included breaking down complex surgical techniques into well-defined steps and creating animations within Unity.

Experience

Technical Proficiency

  • Expertise in creating and refining game design documents, often incorporating wireframes and illustrated storyboards in Figma to ensure effective communication between teams.

  • Extensive knowledge in level design, ensuring all module gameplay is engaging, informative, and sensible for the clients needs.

  • Experienced in creating real-time animations within Unity, working with timelines, and utilizing animator controllers and blend trees for character animations.

  • Skilled in database management with expertise in Airtable, facilitating efficient data manipulation and organization.

  • Proficient in working with CAD files, including creating request lists, inspecting viability, and managing file organization.

Software Competence

  • Extensive expertise utilizing the Unity Engine to build playable modules. Proficient in utilizing inverse kinematics (IK), game engine physics, Event Systems, and performance profiling to ensure optimized and realistic simulations. Experienced in using Unity to build Android applications (APKs).

  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine for tasks such as CAD file importing, optimization, and hierarchy arrangement.

  • Skilled in 3D modeling with Blender and Maya, adept at creating intricate models and facilitating quick pivot and hierarchy changes.

  • Experienced in using Adobe After Effects and related Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator) to develop seamless copy videos for client review.

  • Well-versed in version control systems like Git, facilitating seamless collaboration and project management.

Project Management & Communication

  • Experienced in project management, accurately estimating project timelines, creating and managing request tickets in Jira, and otherwise effectively communicating across multiple departments.

  • Proficient in client communication, serving as the primary point of contact for discussing clinical, educational, and technical aspects of projects.

  • Skilled in quality assurance, screening builds, documenting bugs, and ensuring optimal performance.

  • Maintains a collaborative mindset, facilitating effective teamwork, and leveraging skills and enterprise across departments to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
